Lavon Walker, 30, passed away at a hospital after being shot dead on Sunday on a street corner in Miami Beach, as reported by CBS News.
The incident was located right near the popular street in Miami, Ocean Drive, right before 7 a.m.
Three suspects were seen in a surveillance video speeding away from the scene of the shooting in a white Jeep Cherokee. Police are currently searching for them.
According to CBS, Walker, a father of two, had been active in a Brooklyn advocacy group called, “Save Our Streets.” The group helped to reduce gun violence. In a program partially funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, he was one of four activists who conducted outreach in areas that were known to have had several shootings.
He wished to show people how to avoid street violence after having a changed mindset following his own criminal history.
“Sad that he lost his life in the manner which he fought to end,” said his friend Kenneth Edwards.
