Velvet Brown Named Distinguished Professor at Pennsylvania State University

Velvet Brown was appointed a Distinguished Professor at Pennsylvania State University. The Distinguished Professor position is the university’s highest faculty honor reserved for scholars who “are acknowledged leaders in their fields of research or creative activity.”

Professor Brown joined the faculty at Pennsylvania State University in 2003 as a professor of tuba and euphonium. Earlier in her career, she served on the faculty at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Professor Brown was also an associate director of university bands at Boston University.

Professor Brown has served as an international soloist, ensemble performer, recording artists, conductor, and orchestral players. She is the principal tubist for the Altoona Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania and the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra. She has recorded four solo albums.
