Thomas Sowell: Show Me the Evidence

It’s simultaneously amusing and demoralising that basic common sense, evidence based arguments Thomas Sowell was making almost 40 years ago are still …

When did intellect become a liability? Even back then, the host is an apologist of the first order.

I don't really know what data Thomas Sowell was looking at back then, but we're in 2018 and the data seem to be very concrete. From PayScale's The Scale of the Gender Pay Gap 2018 report you learn that men and women tend to work in similar jobs at the beginning of their careers, and women, right off the bat, are paid "roughly $0.82 for every dollar paid to their male counterpart. As the years go on, women tend to remain in these lower-paying jobs, while men move up the ranks in both position and pay."
It's that simple. Sowell seems to be throwing around so many factors, you tend you start to agree with what he says at some point, but looks like all 'evidence' points to the contrary.

Every time I watched his program, William F. Buckley, Jr., would send me to the dictionary at least once. And I'll be damned, he did it again in this YT clip. "Invidious". God bless you, Mr. Buckley. All will note that Thomas Sowell didn't have a problem with it, though.

This guy…just WOW! It seems that it is not a lack of evidence but a lack of the public learning about the evidence and a lack of policies that are in line with the evidence we seem to have.

"Basic common sense" is a short-way of saying "This is what i think would is like and I think everyone should think so too… did I put any effort into coming up with this way of thinking? no… it just happened by itself… that's why it's "common sense"…"

If you've ever learned anything about the world through scientific method, it's that the common sense doesn't apply, and world has no obligation to make sense to you.

You're only projecting your wants and needs upon the world by claiming the "common sense" card.

Regardless of your political or ideological leaning.

Notice how the interviewers don't compel themselves to weigh in their "two cents" with every response to the questions. That's how an interview is suppose to be. So respectable, dignified, and mature. Today's journalist are leagues behind.

Around 5 minutes in he makes an amazing point about today's atmosphere. The advertisers want to know who they are advertising to. Well, how did football fans become political? We can't be sure. But, I have a hunch that facebook and google are prime examples of ways they can use information they collect against you, except they aren't trying to sell you anything. They are probably figuring out how to control the masses through misinformation. It becomes really easy to study someone when you have as much info as google and facebook have on us all.

When you consider reality like this, it becomes clear that the changes that need to be made are not at the level of higher education or corporate hiring, but at the very beginnings of education.

Do people realize the context of this? He's talking about 1981 and trying to convince you that racism and sexism aren't signifigant causes of inequality. In 1981s. XD

    That's totally nuts

A big part of womens inequality is a consequence of the fact that women speak disproportionately less the less women are in a group compared to men after 50/50 distribution. That's one of the primary reasons for women's inequality; it's an equilibrium due to disproportionate representation

This man is an excellent role model for all people. Society has hidden many men like him, and this is truly sad. If I had heard him talk in the 80's I would have totally had a different appreciation for education, cultural and economics.

That feminist was a racist, she basically said "those black folks without an education are too stupid to pick and choose compared to the system that white folks setup for them". Democrats need minorities to believe that white people are racist to keep them among their ranks so they can get their votes and have power while behind the scenes, they do nothing but hold minorities back with welfare programs and attempts to create caste systems through intersectionality. Sowell, constantly trounced her on the data while she only gave intentionally misleading information/statistics. FACTS & DATA are the first barriers that must be overcome when speaking to Democrats, SJWs, feminists, and race baiters.

Thank you for re-posting this. I, for one, had never seen that segment with Buckley, and it is always a treat to see him spar with his intellectual equal; and Sowell is certainly that.
