Nicki Minaj will perform at MTV Video Music Awards

MTV announced that queen of hip hop Nicki Minaj will return to the VMAs with a surprise remote performance, presented by PEPSI from an iconic, remote, location in NYC. The performance will be the rapper’s first after releasing her long-awaited album, Queen. 

Looks like she has forgiven the network she accused of snubbing Black women back in 2015.

Nicki will take the age just one day after her highly-anticipated and twice delayed album drops so we’re sure she’s going to bring her A game, especially since some of her latest material has raised some eyebrows.

Several folks felt a way about Nicki Minaj collaborating with Tekashi 6ix9ine given his checkered past. Their song, “Fefe” has climbed the charts and the music video they released seemed to be in extremely poor taste.

The music video for the single that already charted at No. 1 paints a particularly troubling picture of a Candyland-like paradise where the rapper who plead guilty to “the use of a child in a sexual performance,” in 2015.

Minaj will join previously announced performers Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Logic with Ryan Tedder, Travis Scott, Post Malone and Jennifer Lopez, who will bring home the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Cardi B leads the pack with ten nominations and Jay-Z and Beyonce, now known as The Carters, nabbed eight nominations for their latest single, “APES**T.” The power couple is up for best collaboration, best hip-hop, and video of the year for the mesmerizing video that was shot at The Louvre in Paris. No word on whether or not they’ll perform at the show but our fingers are crossed.

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) will air live from Radio City Music Hall on Monday, August 20 at 9:00 p.m. EST.
