New Administrative Roles at Universities for Six African Americans

Jeffrey Jones is the new executive director of enrollment management at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. He was the special assistant for enrollment management and diversity recruitment at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. Earlier, Jones was director of admissions at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.

Jones is a graduate of Illinois State University where he majored in history and sociology. He holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Delaware State University.

Tasha Toy was appointed assistant vice president for campus diversity and director of the Multicultural & Inclusion Center at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. For the past eight years, she has been director of multicultural and international student programs at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

Dr. Toy holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in instructional technology from North Carolina Central University in Durham. She earned a doctorate in higher education research and policy from Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

Ashley Robinson was named director of athletics at Jackson State University in Mississippi. He has been serving since 2016 as vice president and director of athletics at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

Robinson is a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University, where he played basketball. He holds a master’s degree from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.

Dexter I. Odom will be the next vice president for business and finance and chief business officer at Fort Valley State University in Georgia. He was vice president for business and finance and chief business officer at Hiram College in Ohio.

Odom is a graduate of Valdosta State University in Georgia, where he majored in accounting. He earned an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University.

B. Sherrance Russell is the new vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. He has been serving as senior residence life officer at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

Dr. Russell is a graduate of Texas Southern University in Houston, where he majored in business administration. He holds a master’s degree in urban education from Langston University in Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in higher education from Jackson State University in Mississippi.

Brent Swinton was named vice president for institutional advancement at Bowie State University in Maryland. He is the former assistant vice president for institutional advancement at Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Swinton is a graduate of the University of Georgia and holds a master of public administration degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
