According to an autopsy, the Jackson, Mississippi man whose head was found on a doorstep was alive when he was decapitated.

The victim, Jeremy Jerome Jackson, suffered a non-fatal gunshot to his leg. His burned body was found less than a mile from where his head was left on the porch of a Jackson home, according to the Clarion-Ledger.

Jackson police have enlisted the help of the FBI because of the brutality of the murder.

“Obviously the manner in which these two incidents have occurred, personally I found to be shocking, bizarre, brutal and unacceptable to the city of Jackson and its citizens,” said Police Chief Lee Vance during a press conference.

This week, gang experts confirmed that the gang MS-13 was in the area. The group is known for decapitations and burning bodies, leading police to believe that the killing was gang-related.

Johnny Jackson, the victim’s older brother, believes that his brother was targeted.

“From my speculation it was a message sent from somebody or to the city because you just don’t kill somebody in the bushes then take their head and put in on display,” he told WLOX. “They displayed him and you could ride down the street and see it on the step. To me, it was a message to somebody.”

“They might do it to someone else, we need to stop this, we need to stop the violence, all this unnecessary kind of stuff really needs to be solved cause they might do it again,” he added.

There is currently a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
