I think Dr. Boyce's problem is that he is conflating the factual existence of a wealth gap and the psycho-social impact of that gap. I think his theory would be better stated as "the significance of the wealth gap is an illusion". As far as the principle of what he's saying I agree 100%.

Yeah I weighed Yvette's arguning points to Boyce's about this wealth gap. I'm critiquing Tone Talks argument against Boyce. For a dude who spends so much time presenting data- which is good- I was waiting for him to present data that countered Boyces' stats on the spending power that ameircan black have and use compared to all those other nations. I checked his stats and he is correct. I find it most curious that Tone passed over that opportunity. I lean more toward Boyce line of reasoning. You can demand that this government smooth out a more economic playing field to include black america, but at the same time don't sit on yo behind waiting for them to do so. If sittin still and screaming is all you do, hell I wont hire you either when I see another guy providing evidence that he is motivated and will put in the work. Get up and move forward, learn the secrets of being financially self sufficiant now while you wait to see if this current government administration will come thru for you, while they continue to prove that they cannot or refuse to come thru for the majority of white america!

$5 stock v. starting a business. The two are unrelated, here's why. In business school three major components are stressed to become a successful business. A viable market, (people who can buy your stuff), adequate financing, (line of credit) and a business network (production, distribution, media) to contain the business. The average DOS has none of these due to being locked out. The other two ways are either unethical, (scams & cons) or illegal.

That leaves most DOS at the margins (barber shops, cafe owners, key makers etc.) or in dying industries like print. $5 stock options, see my reference to the poker game. If these options could have lifted DOS out of poverty, it would have been done already.

I didn't know that Boyce doesn't pay most of his writers and the writers that he does pay are from Cambodia and Malaysia. Wtf?

And I can't believe he recently sold out all his media platforms to a white company. So all the "Black talk" is just talk.

    sad stuff

It's sad when i hear our people talk about how they can't wait till the first of the month when they get their check from the government or they may say if i could just hit the number that all of their problems will be solved it is sad because in the end they will stay broke until the day they die

(Sorry for posting Twice but I wanted to see if I can elicit a response)
I received this message Dr. Boyce Watkins and I thank you for putting this perspective out there.
From my own studies, this whole Black Business Startups not having access to capital is a problem that keeps popping up where I look. And the data seems to show the same thing. To remedy this do you think it is possible to get coordination among the Black Chambers of Commerce OR starting independent Black Business Councils & Roundtables in order to coordinate the black dollar better? To elaborate, I am bouncing off the idea of Microinvesting and Crowdfunding in order to operate outside the traditional banking institutions. There are phone applications such as – Acorn, etc- that allows masses of people to invest pocket change into businesses, while it is not a lot at first it adds up over the year, and if you add the millions of Black consumers it can become very large fund. Do you believe it is possible to create an application that allows Black consumers to invest pocket change from ordinary consumption buying into a fund that goes to provide funding for Black Start ups as a way to remedy the problem of access to capital? Think Kickstarter but with an Acorn twist -If you are familiar with those applications. This would also go a long way as to allow Black people keep their money in their communities, while also teaching investing. This idea is a bit scrambled so hopefully all of that made some sense. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. I know this was a really long passage.

Byron Allen, a freaking billionaire, talked repeatedly about the reality of the racial wealth gap as well as the importance of government in black people's lives (hence his lawsuit). But fuck listening to him, listen to boyce who doesn't even have the capital to pay a staff of five black employees. I swear I'm starting to see why these con artist ass pastors are able to build fortunes off black people. A great deal of y'all are dumb as hell….

to shut down all the negro naysayers…if blacks had no money then explain the black church which rakes in BILLIONS a year from Black People…if people patronized black businesses the same way they went to church we wouldn't need anyone from the dominant society at all, next if black folks didn't have any money how is it ALL other groups get rich off of black folks (Asians, Arabs, Indians), and of course white folks have more it's due to the system of racism white supremacy…but that doesn't mean we can't do anything about it and begging white folks is definitely not the answer….Boyce is right

Dr. Watkins I watched the discussion between Tonetalks and Yvette Carnell. I agree 100% w/ you and have seen how accountability and being self sufficient has helped me far more than my peers. They get upset with you, when you tell them to stop complaining and start their own opportunities.

Dr Watkins I just heard that you have turned all your properties over to Maven, a white corporation? Is that true? Did you also fail to pay your employees or partners because you had no money? Is that why you sold your properties to a white corporation and started talking 'do for self' ? That cannot be TRUE, can it?

I'm 36, if I think back to my 6th grade class, just talking Males, There were probably 15-20 Black Males. I can easily say more than 5 are dead or spent significant time in Prison or have made poor life decisions that have made them poor. is that all the White mans fault? I'm a success story because I make 50k+ and raise my children. which is another issue. I can go on. my point is we keep thinking White People need to do x,y and z when we ain't on our shit. Malcom X said there can be No Black White unity until we have Black Unity. we cannot be acceptable to others until we have proven acceptable to ourselves.

Boyce poverty is relative. If everyone has a computer and a cell phone and you don't you ain't gonna compete. If you don't have a car, even though you got a cell phone and a computer and you live in a rural area with no public transportation you ain't gonna make it, especially if you need to travel to work. If everyone who is your competition has a car, cell phone and computer you ain't gonna work

How about that? Charity is not a business model. There are so many black folks on FB and YouTube doing videos for other black people and asking for donations — wondering why they don't get any. Learn how to package and sell something so you can do the work you were meant to do.

boyce is of, and a let of these brothers and sister are ok, but they are lying about it all, mr. Claude Anderson got it mostly right but, to say you need companies, but not jobs is backwards … "the companies got to be create to create jobs" so you will have people to buy the products, and the companies got to making something, something that blacks need and buy all the time … this is why i say "agricultural"

Respectfully, Dr. Watkins every man and woman should do for their selves that is a given under the theme of "self preservation". At that same token, when  men and women have been deprived as much as our community by the same establishment which it is expecting us too compete and thrive it's unrealistic to say the least. In other words, we deserve and need reparation including our own independent ventures whether its from the "white man's hand or the blue man".
I personally, have one more vote 2020 I would like not only Antonio Moore, Yvette Carnell but likewise, yourself.  Thanks.
