Black Show Wins 2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical on Broadway

By Black And Making It with Ayvaunn Penn

How many of you watched the Tony Awards last night? It was absolutely amazing — filled with all the dazzle, sparkle, glitz, and glam that only Broadway can bring. I should know. I was at the dress rehearsal  But the most amazing part of the Tony Awards this year was seeing Once On This Island win the Best Revival of a Musical. This piece celebrating the African Diaspora features an unbelievably talented cast of sangin’ chocolate folk and a musical number — “Mama Will Provide” lead by soloist Alex Newell — that brings down the house EVERY TIME. Check out the video clip below for a taste of the magic you still have the opportunity to see on Broadway at Circle in the Square Theatre in NYC.

Huge congrats to the cast and team behind Once on the Island. Your win is well deserved. Thank you for representing black talent and beauty in such a beautiful way on the big stage.
