The Rev. Al Sharpton is slated to discuss “conservative right-wing attempts” to discredit Nate Parker and his upcoming film, The Birth of a Nation, during National Action Network’s action rally and radio broadcast Saturday.

According to a press release by NAN, Sharpton will question the “right-wing” motives of bringing up the 17-year-old rape case, as a means to “perpetuate an all-white Academy Awards while obscuring exclusion of blacks.”

The weekly rally is to be held at the National Action Network headquarters in New York City Saturday. Media arrival is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

The address will be broadcast on WLIB 1190 AM or a live stream will be available at NAN’s website, according to the release.
